After watching the movie Food Matters, my husband Chris decided one of the things he’d like to get is a machine to make smoothies using whole fruits, veggies, and ice. We purchased a Vitamix during a demonstration at Whole Foods, and Chris has been a smoothie-making-fiend ever since. He learned early on to follow the directions closely, because too much of something (even things you think are mild like cucumber or carrots) makes the difference between delicious and inedible. After awhile he started to see a pattern as to which foods to mix in what proportions, and now he’s a regular gourmet juicer.
The photo above shows Chris’s special concoction today, before blending:
Fruits: banana, pomegranate juice, grapefruit juice, organic pineapple, frozen grapes, frozen huckleberries, apple slices (the last 3 from our own garden)
Veggies: broccoli, carrots, kale, cabbage, spinach, cucumber, zucchini, parsley.
4-5 ice cubes, ½ cup water.
Blend. Feed to family. Have energy to function.
